This multi-phased project combined three units into a single, fluid and urban home. Unique ebony-stained crosscut white oak paneling installed throughout created a consistent modern look. The extensive use of bright white Juno lighting highlighted the owner’s collection of fine art. Clean-lined luxurious bathrooms featured white Carrera marble and custom-made sinks. A massive wine cellar was also added and featured a dedicated security system, temperature and humidity controls, concrete board and closed cell insulation for environmental stability, as well as storage for many thousands of bottles
The design goal was to combine two condo units into one large European contemporary unit for a worldly young professional and his fiancée. The couple enjoys hosting parties and serving wine from their extensive wine collection, and wanted to create a gallery like atmosphere in which to display their art. The owner’s emphasis was on “cool” for the finishes and ambiance.
Artifex Builders accomplished these goals by installing an open kitchen/dining room plan with streamlined Pogen Pahl cabinetry from Germany, and low voltage spot light and multi-spot lights with specific beam spreads to illuminate the couple’s art work. A step away from the kitchen is a huge temperature and humidity controlled wine cellar that stores the homeowners 2,200 bottles of wine. The “coolness” factor continues in the bathroom with a sleek spa bathroom featuring a stand alone tub, a walk-in shower with Kohler body sprays and Mr. Steam, and a ¾” thick 24” x 12” limestone from Indiana that covers the walls of the entire bathroom.
The greatest challenge was insulating the party noise from the unit below! Artifex Builders installed a unique sound barrier consisting of sound deadening QuietFoam and Quiet Underlayment substrate on the light weight concrete floors, and then floated an oak riff hardwood floor on the materials.
